Deal close: 16 goal Arsenal target closes in on signing a new contract for club
Transfers October 4, 2016According to a report from The Bleacher Report, Inter Milan striker and one time alleged Arsenal target; Mauro Icardi is on the verge of extending his contract at the San Siro with Inter Milan.
Over the summer Arsenal were linked with so many strikers and the Argentine international emerged as a prime target for Arsene Wenger who failed with his attempt to lure Icardi to The Emirates.
In the end, Arsene Wenger signed Lucas Perez after many failed bids for Icardi and other players, and Perez has struggled to make a real impact since his arrival, and has made just 2 starts for the North London outfit.
Icardi’s agent and wife, Wanda, told Italian news outlet football-italia that her husband is about to sign a new contract, she said:
“Is the renewal a matter of days? I’m being honest, I don’t know. I think it’s all done now though, we’re happy.”
A move for Icardi would have made a lot of sense, and was probably the world class striker to complete Arsene Wenger’s jigsaw, however, moving Alexis Sanchez into the central role seems to have been a masterstroke by Wenger.
Who knows – did we actually bid for Icardi, or is it just another case of yet another player and his agent using Arsenal to get a pay rise?
