Arsenal receive massive injury boost ahead of tonight’s clash with PSG
Champions League, Injuries, Match Preview September 13, 2016Arsenal’s opening day match against Liverpool ended a 4-3 defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s men following the devastating loss of Per Mertesacker and Gabriel during our pre-season games.
I personally think the lack of experienced centre backs were the main cause of the defeat, with new signing Rob Holding and the inexperienced Calum Chambers at the back against a well organised side.
Koscielny was still missing due to the European Championships and with the late injuries, Wenger was left with no option but to play Chambers and Holding, and go on the look out for another senior player.
It’s a shame Wenger didn’t act quicker in the transfer market, as we took a couple of games to get going, and you feel that a Mustafi/Holding partnership could have perhaps got a bit more out of the games against Liverpool and Leicester.
Things have taken a better turn since then, Arsenal winning the next 2 games, Watford away and Southampton at home, and we find ourselves just behind Spurs despite our stuttering start.
There’s some great news coming out of the club, with a picture on the Arsenal official website last week showing Brazilian ace Gabriel back in training. Great news with a packed schedule coming up with Champions League and League Cup games in amongst the intense Premier League fixtures.
The return of Gabriel gives Wenger the opportunity to rotate his defenders, and plenty of options for the upcoming matches, there’s still no further news on the Captain Mertesacker, but let’s hope he’s back soon to give Wenger even more cover and support in what promises to be an amazing season for Arsenal.
