Arsenal set to complete the signing of Riyad Mahrez in 48 hours – report

Rumours have been rife over the past couple of weeks that we are trying to sign Riyad Marhez as a potential reinforcement for next season as an upgrade on Theo Walcott who failed to impress last season.

Walcott was out of the side for a while last season through injury but when he did play, he looked rusty and failed to convince Arsenal fans that he was the man for the job.

It looks like Arsene Wenger has said enough’s enough, and reports from Le Buteur this morning claims that Arsenal are close to landing Mahrez in the next 48 hours in a deal worth around €44m (£37.1m) .

The 25-year-old ace helped Leicester to win the Premier League title and he was also awarded the PFA player of the year last season after his amazing tally of 17 goals and 11 Ozils.

N’Golo Kante and Jamie Vardy have also been linked to a move to Arsenal over the summer, but Kante has joined Conte at Chelsea, and Jamie Vardy chose to stay at Leicester.

No one knows how reliable these reports are, but hopefully things will be concluded quickly – I personally think signing Mahrez makes a lot of sense, and could help in reducing the pressure on Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil. His arrival at The Emirates Stadium could also see Arsene Wenger cash in on Theo Walcott, or if Walcott remains, perhaps the competition for places could spur him on to better things in an Arsenal shirt, more if we hear anything!
