Arsenal set to complete deal for star as club eye ready-made replacement

Following this week’s injury crisis, the loss of Gabriel after the game against Man City, and Arsene Wenger’s confirmation that Per Mertesacker will be out for ‘a few months’ it seems as though talks are finally happening to being in Mustafi this week.

Despite getting back to training today, Laurent Koscielny probably won’t start against Liverpool this coming Sunday, so all eyes are on Arsene Wenger in the transfer market.

In a report today from, they claim Wenger wants to complete the signing of German international defender Shkodran Mustafi before we play Liverpool at 4pm on Sunday (Live on Sky Sports).

Wenger seemed to start the transfer window well, nipping in to sign Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach before anyone realized he was good, then he’s acquired his usual masterstrokes, with Nigerian ‘wonderkid’ Kelechi Nwakalli, Japanese ‘promising youngster’ Takano Asano and his token ‘British core’ signing of Rob Holding.

They report (as we already know) that Mustafi now remains Wenger’s prime focus ahead of the new season, but as always there’s a discrepancy about the fee, with the The Sun claiming Valencia could be demanding up to £42m for the highly rated defender.

It seems Chelsea’s interest has cooled for the player, leaving us in the hotseat for his signature, with Valencia keen to get any deal finalised to try and meet some of their FFP requirements and avoid any penalties.

It was also reported earlier this week that the Spanish club themselves, are already in the market for a replacemement  for the defender, and claims today from Sky also say talks are ongoing.

Mustafi featured in 44 games for Valencia last season, scoring two goals and two assists.
