Deal done: Arsenal complete transfer for highly rated defensive star
All, Transfers August 4, 2016Deal done: Arsenal complete transfer for highly rated defensive star
After minimal transfer activity this summer, things feel like they could be creaking into gear, with Arsenal yet to spend big since the purchase of Granit Xhaka.
Our Premier League rivals, Chelsea, Man United and Man City, all have new managers, and have spent most of the summer strengthening their squads, while we seem to have been happy to watch it all happen.
With no signings of note for many weeks, Arsenal have finally announced a transfer, but it’s not an incoming one, it’s the loan transfer of keeper Wojciech Szczesny to AS Roma.
The deal has long been mooted, but Arsenal today have announced that he will join the Giallorossi on a season-long loan move, a statement on the club’s website confirmed:
“Wojciech Szczesny has rejoined AS Roma on loan for the coming season. Wojciech was a near ever-present for the Italian side last term. He made 34 league appearances and helped the club to a third-place finish in Serie A. During the summer Wojciech represented Poland at Euro 2016, keeping a clean sheet in the opening group game before injury ended his tournament. Wojciech first joined our academy in 2006 as a 16-year-old. He has featured a total of 181 times for the first team since making his debut against West Brom in 2009. Wojciech’s loan is subject to the completion of regulatory processes. We wish him well for the season ahead…”
Szczesny had a great season last year in Italy after finding himself out of favour at The Emirates, and he’ll still not have it his own way in Italy after the Italians signed Alisson Becker this summer but here at ArsenalShorts, we’d like to wish the Pole in Goal the best of luck – good luck Gooner!
