Journalist confirms Arsenal target has completed medical

According to reports in Italy, Juventus are planning to finalise the deal for Napoli striker and Arsenal target Gonzalo Higuain.

The Italian news outlet Tutto Mercato Web claims that the Serie A champions have triggered the Argentine international striker’s release clause, and are due to complete the deal to sign the highly-rated striker shortly.

It seems the Juventus wants to invest the money they are about to receive from Paul Pogba’s move to the Old Trafford, straight away on the Argentine international.

The 29-year-old ace has apparently completed his medical with the Turin outfit in the Spanish capital of Madrid yesterday, and the report from Calciomercato claims Higuain has already agreed a €7.5 million (£6.3m) salary on a four year contract.

The news of Higuain has also been confirmed by an Italian journalist Fabrizio Romanon on Twitter earlier today:

Both Arsenal and Chelsea were said to be targeting Higuain but the huge transfer fee has proved too expensive meaning Juventus are free to sign the player, they also are said to have stopped Napoli from blocking the deal to sell the player to a Serie A rival, by meeting the player’s release clause which is believed to be around €94 million (£79m).

Higuain, 29,  had an impressive season with the Serie A club last season, when he scored 36 goals in just 35 appearances. In the past three seasons with Napoli he has hit the back of the net 91 times in 146 games.

The Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger is in the market trying to lure a world-class hitman to The Emirates this summer to compete with Olivier Giroud next season The North London club has also been linked with a huge list of striker in recent week, with the likes of Carlos Bacca, Mauro Icardi and Alvaro Morata so far have all been linked with a move to the North London, but still Wenger’s search continues.
