Do Arsenal have the bottle to end their twelve-year wait for a Premier League title?
As the 2015/2016 enters the business stage of the season in which every point matters, Arsenal have put themselves in a wonderful position to pick up a long-awaited league title. Very few, if anyone at all, expected the Gunners to endure a twelve-year barren run following the infamous ‘Invincibles’ of 2003/2004, but with twelve games to go, the club may not have a better opportunity to taste the success that everyone connected with Arsenal crave so much.
The unpredictable nature of the Premier League makes it incredibly difficult to foresee how it will pan out between now and May, but while Arsenal’s odds of ending the campaign at the summit improved with Bookies.com following what could be prove to be the pivotal victory against league leaders Leicester, there is no question that the quality is there to see the job out. Danny Welbeck’s goal-scoring return from injury already feels like a new signing that adds to the strength in depth that Arsene Wenger has upfront, although the numbers have been further depleted with Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel Paulista joining Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere and Tomas Rosicky on the sidelines.
Their absence could create a real problem that many fans have been fearing for years; Wenger’s reluctance to bring in a number of players when it has been clear that Arsenal’s first-team squad is relatively thin could come back to bite the team where it hurts if further injuries and suspensions occur. If the Gunners were to lose the likes of Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez who could be the difference between the title and falling short yet again, it is questionable if their replacements bring the same level of quality to the table.
Wenger’s stubbornness and lack of transfer activity may prove to be decisive in the coming weeks, but the greatest threat to Arsenal’s chances of winning the Premier League title could be their mentality to handle the pressure when the heat is on. Being one of the most attractive sides in the top-flight will count for nothing if Arsenal show the same level of complacency when it matters most – something which has cost the team numerous times over the years.
Beating the league leaders may have been an indication that it might be worth logging onto https://bookies.com to get the best odds on Arsenal to get the job done this time around, but it will require a more consistent demonstration of mettle and determination to ensure there are no more slip-ups during the run in. This may be easier said than done, with upcoming trips to Manchester United, Tottenham and Everton just a few games that provide significant hurdles for Arsenal to overcome in their pursuit of glory.
Twelve games provide little, if any, freedom to allow our mentality, which has already come into question from Thierry Henry, to be Arsenal’s downfall. The defeats against Southampton, Chelsea and West Brom came at moments when the team were expected to make a statement of intent, yet fell short of their, and everyone else’s, expectations. It is these sort of slip-ups that has left Arsenal two points behind Leicester who could win the title themselves if they win all of their remaining league fixtures; this appears highly unlikely, given the unpredictable nature of a league in which anything appears possible.
Cutting the deficit at the top from five points to two not only prevented the Foxes from taking one step closer to the fairytale ending that the neutrals are after, but also ended Arsenal’s winless run and barren streak in front of goal. Both factors might prove essential in being the springboard that Wenger’s side utilise to prove the doubters wrong and show they have the bottle to go the distance.
