Match Report

Arsenal sailed to the top of the Premier League on the day when Arsene Wenger celebrated his 67th birthday in a fitting tribute to the great man.

We failed to score at The Emirates, and in a game where Petr Cech was our Man of the Match, a draw seemed a fair result.

Mesut Ozil had the ball in the back of the net in injury time, but his goal was deemed offside by ‘referee’ Mike Dean.

Chances came and went for both sides, but with both keepers in fine form, no one could break the deadlock. Theo Walcott, Ozil and Alexis all went close, but with Coquelin an Elneny in midfield, and with Xhaka and Cazorla missing, we just didn’t have that cutting edge and perhaps our exploits in the Champions League in the week took their toll.

Despite remaining unbeaten, Spurs are still below us in the league by a point after a 0-0 draw at Bournemouth, and we’re top by a point, with Man City to play Southampton at home tomorrow afternoon at 1:30pm.

Our next game is another one at home, with the visit of Reading on Tuesday night in the EFL Trophy, then back to Premier League action next weekend with the long trip to beleaguered Sunderland, who lost today to a last minute West Ham goal.
