Club President confirms Arsenal interest in 21-goal hitman
Premier League, Transfers October 20, 2016Ligue 1 Lyon’s President Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed they rejected offers from the Premier League of around £50 million for Alexandre Lacazette in this summer’s transfer window.
Aulas confirmed in The Metro:
“This summer, we rejected €55m (£49.7m) for Lacazette from two Premier League clubs and €37m from Napoli for (Corentin) Tolisso.”
It’s believed that Arsenal were one of the clubs showing a keen interest in signing the ace when Wenger was on the hunt for a striker, and a report by BBC Sport back in July confirmed that an offer worth £29.3 million from Arsenal was indeed snubbed. It’s thought that West Ham were the other club from the Premier League in for him.
Back in the summer, Le Boss was on the hunt for an out and out striker, and world-class hitman and Lacazette’s pace, clever movement, brilliant technique and top-quality finishing would have made him the perfect foil for Ozil’s vision in the final third.
The move however, would mean we’d have been denied seeing Wenger’s masterplan of moving Sanchez into the middle, a move which is paying dividends right now.
Wenger opted to move for Lucas Perez, who is still yet to set the world alight for Arsenal, however when called on he’s looked the part, highlighted last night with his incredible pace, energy and creativity when he came on.
