Report: Piers Morgan claims Wenger should have been sacked for selling this ace
Premier League, Transfers October 5, 2016A report from thesportreview claim that Arsenal shareholder Piers Morgan says Arsene Wenger should have been sacked for selling Robin Van Persie to our bitter rivals Manchester United in the 2012 summer transfer window.
The Dutch international striker’s last season’s performance at The Emirates was brilliant netting 30 goals in 38 league Premier League appearances for the North London outfit.
The 33-year-old ace then joined Manchester United in the 2012 summer transfer window when former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson convinced Wenger to sell the ace ahead of the final year of Van Persie’s contract at the Emirates Stadium.
Van Persie also netted 26 goals for Manchester United which saw the Premier League giants winning their 13th Premier League title much to the disdain on many Arsenal fans.
Morgan said Wenger should have been sacked for selling Van Persie. He said as quoted by BBC Sport:
“He should have been sacked for that alone [selling Van Persie],”
“Seriously, you sell your captain and your best player to your number one rivals and they win the league and he wins the golden boot.
“You think he’s still the same ruthless winner he was before?”
Arsenal have failed to win the Premier League title since we won it in 2004 but promising signs are being shown this season with only one defeat, and now we’re sitting in third in the league, with 5 straight home games to come…
