Arsenal’s incredible £52m bid for 39-goal hitman turned down
Champions League, Transfers September 28, 2016It appears Gabon and Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang WAS on manager Arsene Wenger’s shopping list as he looked to bolster our attacking options over the summer.
Several big names were bandied around over the summer, most rumours unfounded, but it looks like this one could have played a bit part in Wengers secret project ‘Operation SignAllThePlayers’.
Anyway, the latest report from The Metro claim we had a concrete bid of around £52 million turned down over the summer by Dortmund who were looking for a record breaking sum for the forward.
Last season Aubameyang scored 39 goals in just 49 games in all competitions for Dortmund, and was also linked with a move to Real Madrid.
The 27 year old hitman was also linked a with a host of other clubs over the summer, and a report from Spanish outlet El Confidencial via The Metro reckon Wenger went to Germany himself with a mouth-watering £52m cash bid (or £65m plus Theo – haha) for the Gabon international striker.
If a deal was done, the fee would have smashed the £42m Arsenal paid for German international Mesut Ozil in the 2013 summer transfer window but sadly for us, the move was blocked by the Germans, who didn’t want to let Aubameyang leave the club.
