Deal done: Another defender completes transfer, deal agreed

Arsenal defender and utility man; Calum Chambers has been sent on loan to gain some vital first team experience and has joined Premier League new boys Middlesbrough on a season-long loan.

According to the report from The Daily Mirror, a number of clubs were interested in signing the 21 year old but Middlesbrough looks to be Chamber’s preferred destination. It’s thought Chambers England and Arsenal team mate Jack Wilshere is off on loan as well today, as the end of the transfer window approaches.

Chambers has played well under Arsene Wenger since he joined but he’s always been on the fringe of the first team, despite some great performances.

Boro Head Coach Aitor Karanka said about his new signing:

“I’m really pleased , it’s a position where we’ve been working towards bringing the right player in. We haven’t been in a hurry because Calum was the player we were waiting for, and he’s going to help us a lot. I’d like to say thank you to him because we know he had another offer, but he wanted to come here. That’s important and we’re looking forward to working with him.”

Chambers said on his personal Twitter account:

“Pleased to sign on loan for Boro, excited about the season ahead and can’t wait to get working.”

Chambers has been a reliable replacement in many defensive positions, mainly right back, replacing Hector Bellerin when the Spaniard has been injured or suspended, and most recently at centre back this season, when Arsene Wenger failed to get a centre back in time for the Liverpool game to replace Per Mertesacker and Gabriel, both injured in pre-season.

Chambers has made 36 appearances, scoring twice since he arrived from Southampton for £16m in the 2014 summer transfer window.

Good luck at Boro Calum!
