Arsenal close in on 4th signing, Wenger set to sign £21m Mertesacker replacement

Even before the season has started, our injury problems are starting to mount up. Alexis Sanchez was injured at the Copa America, Danny Welbeck set to be out for around nine months due to a serious knee injury, and now everyone’s favourite BFG; Per Mertesacker has been ruled out for ‘a few months’ after a knee injury and subsequent emergency surgery back in Germany this week.

It seems as though Arsene Wenger has made filling the BFG sized void a priority, and reports in the Metro. claim that Valencia have told Arsene Wenger that Arsenal can sign German centre-back Shkodran Mustafi for around £21m.

Wenger said on the club’s official website:‘

“With Per being out, we are a bit short on the experience
front and we are looking to bring somebody in…”

The reports from Daily Star earlier this week also claim that the North London club have already opened talks with the German international over a possible deal.

Mustafi, 24, has been brilliant for Valencia, and would be a welcome acquisition to immediately solve Wenger’s centre back crisis.
