Journalist confirms secret talks ongoing for 22-goal forward, Wenger plotting £60m deal for ace
With just a few days left of the transfer window, a squad full of injured players and no on-field captain, it’s hard not to try and get involved with some of the nonsense being spouted across the world of the internet in the hope that there’s a glimmer of truth somewhere, somehow.
If 10% of the stories are true in the past few weeks, Arsene Wenger is very active in the market and surely must be looking to sign a centre back and a striker at the very least.
We are without England international Danny Welbeck until around Christmas time, Olivier Giroud is finding it hard to win over the Arsenal fans as he creaks back into action after the European Championships, Theo is … ahem … yet to find his form, and Arsenal fans are clamoring for a big name striker to help banish the poor start to the season.
The most ludicruous rumour of all (Jonny Evans and Phil Jones aside) has come to our attention today, with the news that behind the scenes, the ‘madness’ which the Arsenal fans crave, could be a ‘secret’ deal by Arsene Wenger. He is reported to be plotting an audacious £60m swoop for Atletico Madrid striker; Antoine Griezmann according to the report from Squawka.
The Squawka journalist claims that Wenger has been working on a deal to make him the clubs most expensive signing but Atletico will only be persuaded if Diego Costa joins them from Chelsea. It’s also thought this will only happen if Everton allow Lukaku to go to Chelsea, so any move seems unlikely at this late stage of the window.
The 25-year-old hotshot’s performances have been brilliant since he joined Atletico from Real Sociedad in 2014 and he has developed into a world-class forward with 22 goals in 38 appearances last season and signing a player like Griezmann would make a lot of sense as he already has the quality that we need to win the Premier title for the first time in 12 years.
