Conceding four goals at home to Liverpool is not the best start to our league season, and has only gone to highlight our deficiencies at the back. With Per Mertesacker and Gabriel both seriously injured pre-season, Arsene Wenger surely has to step up his search for a new centre back.
In recent weeks, Germany and Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi has been rumoured to be Wenger’s top target with several conflicting reports about the ongoing saga of Arsenal trying to sign him continue to baffle Arsenal fans.
Twitter is awash with rumours that there’s still no deal at all in the offing, or that the two clubs cannot agree a fee, but theirs is some better news yesterday from Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol who claims Mustafi wants to move and hopes a deal goes through:

Mustafi was dropped from pre-season games, and it was also rumoured that Chelsea were said to be interested in signing the player, but it seems they have now turned their attention elsewhere leaving us to finalise the deal.
