World cup winner misses club’s match after Arsenal show keen interest, not Mustafi

As time ticks on towards the start of the season, Arsene Wenger is still looking for players to fill the gaps in our squad, much to the increasing frustration of our fans.

Gooners everywhere, plus pretty much everyone else in the whole world, can see we are crying out for a world class striker and centre back at the very least. With the defensive midfielder problem, sorted nice and early with the acquisition of Granit Xhaka, things were looking up, then links to Vardy and Mahrez put an even more positive spin on the window, but now … with just a few days until kick off, things are looking very desperate, the Swiss player being the only ‘big’ signing of note.

Despite the BBC’s David Ornstein yesterday, quashing the rumours of Mahrez and Draxler, it’s the German striker who could still be on his way to The Emirates despite the word of Ornstein being seen as the gospel truth by most Arsenal fans.

Arsene Wenger has long been a fan of the German, and apparently still wants to try and push a deal through for the 22 year old. The good news is that The Metro claim that Schalke left Draxler out of their squad on Thursday against Malmo.

It’s claimed that Everton are also tracking Draxler, and there’s also a meeting between the player and Volkswagen chief Francisco Javier Garcia Sanz after his comments, according to the report from Bild, presumably to clear the air and get the player to stay despite his public announcement he’s ready to leave the club.

Ornstein has said that Lacazette remains our prime striker target, so who knows, perhaps Draxler is still the plan B, but time is running out, with our penultimate friendly this evening, and the Liverpool game now less than ten days away…
