Deal close: Arsenal set to complete signing on Wednesday

Arsenal are expected to complete the signing of England U21 international Rob Holding tomorrow (Wednesday), according to a report from The Bolton News.

Holding, who was crowned Bolton’s player of the year last season, underwent a secret medical on Monday at the Emirates Stadium. It’s thought that a transfer fee in excess of £2m was agreed between Bolton and Arsenal and the Gunners will pay Bolton additional fees based on his future international and club appearances.

Holding made 30 appearances for the League One side, making his first appearance less than a year ago in the Capital One Cup where they were defeated by Burton Albion.

Not too long ago, his career took off as he went from being second choice at Bolton Wanderers to being called up by England U21 manager Gareth Southgate for the Toulon Tournament.

The 20-year-old ace is set to become the French manager’s third signing of the summer after midfielder Granit Xhaka and Japanese forward Takuma Asano. This means the North London club has signed a defender, a striker and midfielder during this summer transfer window.

Personally, I only see Xhaka as the only player who is capable of fighting for a chance in the first team straight away, but Asano and Holding will be good for the future.

The Bolton News quoted Bolton boss Phil Parkinson as saying: “As far as I know there is interest from a number of Premiership clubs.
The chairman has got a valuation in mind and I don’t think he will budge from that. I don’t think he needs to, either, because he is a very good young player and there is a premium on those types. If someone comes up with that valuation then the chairman will give me a call.”

Holding was not in Bolton’s squad on Tuesday night for the club’s friendly against Tranmere Rovers and if reports are to be believed, then it appears the England U21 internationals move to the Emirates is very close.
