Deal close: 36 goals in 35 games hitman told club to let him join Arsenal, despite Juve showing interest
After Arsene Wenger has now sorted the defensive midfield problem by landing Granit Xhaka, bringing in a striker is thought to now be top of Wenger’s shopping list.
Arsenal have been lacking the service of a quality striker ever since Robin van Persie departed to Manchester United, although Wenger has bought two strikers after the departure of Robin Van Persie but they have both failed to truly deliver at The Emirates Stadium.
The report from Daily Star says Argentinian international striker Gonzalo Higuain has made it known to his club, Napoli, that he should be allowed to join Arsenal despite ongoing interest from Juventus, but Wenger is now rumoured to be shying away from the huge price tag.
The news outlet also reported that Arsenal gaffer Arsene Wenger personally called the Argentine international in a bid to lure him to join the North London club.
Wenger has been forced to look at other options after he missed out on the Premier League defending champions top striker Jamie Vardy, And it looks Higuain seems to now be the most likely signing.
Arsenal has also been rumoured to be interested in the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Alexandre Lacazette who have both been linked with a move to The Emirates this summer.
This is not the first time Higuain has been linked with a move to the Emirates. Wenger tried to lure him in 2013 before he moved to Napoli and it has been reported by so many news outlets that Arsenal are ready to table a bid to the French club chief when they meet in London on-on-one.
The 29-year-old ace has netted 121 goals in 264 matches in total for his formal club, and he has scored an average of 20 goals per season ever since he arrived at Stadio San Paolo.
Last season he was one of the best strikers in the Serie A league as he broke the long standing Serie A record, after he hit the net 36 times in 35 games last season.
Personally, I think Arsenal signing Higuain makes a lot sense, imagine how we could perform with the likes of Ozil and Sanchez supporting him in August.
