Player’s wife confirms Arsenal made offer for Milan striker
Arsenal have tabled an offer for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi but the Gunners are said to face stiff competition for the signature of the striker, with last season’s third place team Tottenham also showing keen interest in signing the Argentine striker, according to the striker’s agent/wife.
Gunners gaffer Arsene Wenger is said to be on the lookout for another striker to The Emirates this summer to compete with Olivier Giroud next season after Leicester’s star striker Jamie Vardy snubbed a move to the north London in June.
It seem the Gunners made their interest in the 23-year-old ace official as the striker’s agent and wife, Wanda Nara, has now admitted that Arsenal is known to be one of the clubs who have been showing a keen interest in trying to sign the Argentine international this summer.
However, it seem the Gunners will face fierce competition as the agent claimed that Atletico Madrid, Spurs, Roma and Napoli are also showing a keen interest sign Icardi. His wife further stated that they are both happy to remain at with Serie A club and could still be set to sign an improved contract, but also suggested that Inter are the ones trying to force a sale.
Evening Standard report that the agent quoted as saying: “There are many offers, but I do not negotiate with other clubs. I only talk about Mauro’s contract, that’s my role, not doing negotiations. Atletico Madrid, Tottenham and Arsenal have made contact. Napoli and Roma are also interested now. I’ve asked for a renewal because the club had promised me a renewal. Last year we accepted their conditions, which mean a lower salary, the sale of the 50% of Mauro’s economic rights and there is no release clause on his contract. They have to keep their promises. We want to stay in Milan. People say I am a mercenary, but I am not. [Inter] have to say the truth. They can’t say Icardi is not for sale and then talk to other clubs.”
Icardi had been brilliant since he joined Inter in 2013 and he has netted 52 goals in his 105 appearances for the Serie A outfit since he joined them three years ago from Sampdoria, so he has a good profile with the Italian club.
Personally, I prefer Wenger going for players like Morata or Draxler who can play anywhere in the attack but if Wenger choose to go for Icardi he could also be a perfect alternative.
